I will say, the Unbidden invasion was a pretty fun string of Happenings. I circled about where their portal showed up; as you can see, the Zum League of Systems- one of my Rivals, and the biggest threat outside of those FEs- got absolutely destroyed. The Shantari Irenic Alliance- the arrow-head empire on the bottom left- were so terrified they came and asked to be vassalized in exchange for protection- which, when you consider that they are Xenophobic Pacifists, and are essentially Isolationists who just want to stay out of everything and have nothing to do with anyone else, is a pretty big deal.
The Jurinn Autocracy and Photecian Compact were too busy picking over the pieces and taking advantage of the League's plight to realize the danger- until the Unbidden finished harvesting the League's planets and came for theirs. The Jurinn fleets were obliterated, and the Photecians chose to withdraw their fleets into their core worlds and abandon their allies, vassals, and outer colonies. If my fleet hadn't reached fighting strength about that time, the Jurinn would have faced the same fate as the League.
Even then, it was the first real challenge my fleets had faced- my fleet of cruisers-destroyers-corvettes managed to take out one fleet, but the losses were high- not enough to cripple the fleet, but it was clear that if other battles went that way, the cost would be unsustainable. Instead, I fell back and devoted about six spaceports and all my economic might into pumping out battleships as fast as I could. I reached a fleet-strength I could accept with them at the same time as the Unbidden targeted one of my vassal's planets.
The fleet I faced them with was a ragtag mix of some FE ships I'd uncovered from a shielded world, a Dragon Hatchling from the Dragon's Hoard, a handful of battleships from a vassal I integrated, and about fifty battleships fresh off the docks, with an escort of about fourscore destroyers. The Unbidden are deadly, but they lack any form of long-range weaponry, and thus they fell in a hail of Kinetic Artillery, Arc Emitters, Talcyon Lances and a Dragon's Breath. Even then, it was a game of cat and mouse- the Unbidden fleets were many, and to jump in on top of one or have one jump in on me would have been trouble. It was only through calculated maneuvering, targeting of isolated fleets, and the economic power to keep churning out capital ships as fast as the docks could make them slowly turned the tide.

Traits and Civics can be changed later (well, Traits can be added to; you have to invest in the full Biological Ascendancy to remove positives/add negatives), but Ethics are much more difficult to shift, so only pick the Ethics you want to work with. Percentage bonuses are always better than flat bonuses. Armies aren't important, or rather aren't very well implemented, so don't fall for any "+X% Army damage" traits or civics, because it's essentially wasted points (things that have bonuses other than the army bonus, like Very Strong, can be good, but should be judged by the other bonuses provided.)
Missiles are trash right now, so your starting weapons should be kinetic. If you want lasers, you can research them later, but early game is all about fire-rate and shields, which is where Kinetics are strongest.
Warp is
a meme but a good option for when literally just starting out and trying to figure out how everything works, since it doesn't carry any real restrictions other than being really slow. Wormholes are fun, but managing the stations requires you to know what you're doing with your economy. Only take hyperlanes if you're playing a hyperlanes-only game.
>>844988>Star ChartsWhy the fuck would you do that? Too many things that require "survey this to proceed" get screwed up by the thing already being surveyed, plus the Survey Corps tradition + auto-exploring your allies' territory brings in a big chunk of Research points.

I just don't get why buff hanzo to spam more bullshit random arrows that aren't even aimed and you can't expect them or play around them when there is already a hanzo in every fucking game

Some thoughts on last week's Jack:
>I know one vs an army is classic Jack, but it would've been nice since this is an actual human, non-robot army to see some real tactics. Pit traps, mud/rock slides, fire arrows into the supply caravan, release the horses at night, general demoralizing terrorism, etc. - the real ways one can beat many
>Wasn't it kind of weird that Jack wasn't devastated that Ashi murdered a fuckton of people? I mean, it was in battle, but he was broken up about killing her sisters
>I kinda liked nuJack aesthetic so it feels weird to go back to old Jack now, but no big deal
>Scotsman shit STILL HASN'T MATTERED
>This episode had a lot of new stuff going on so overall I enjoyed it
>Felt like it went too fast, it was all over in the blink of an eye. That being said, I thought the flashback was perfectly handled. Honestly, the manual search for the sword could've been cut entirely (just start with him commenting "I realize the sword left me") in favor of better pacing
No.845297
>>845294The fight with the army could have been dropped completely in favor of the fight with mommy I think. Would also have given more time for the flashback.
While I think Ashi has been okay, and certainly not as bad as some feared, her introduction as a main character still steals too much time from Jack. She'd have to do something really special at the end to make her inclusion a net bonus.
No.845298

Also some Fenix thoughts since I just want to blogpost them
>Feels way strong for not much effort
>At level 1 I carried normal pretty easily - which is no feat but I cleared half of Dead of Night during night just massing adepts so it's joke tier
>Level 2-3 made hard look like a joke massing adepts even vs. mass disruptor/reaver, my ostensible hard counter
>Level 4-5 start chewing through brutals by incorporating some zealots and scouts
Tempted to try the weekly mutator on hard to pick up bounty XP and make leveling faster
Fenix doesn't really call for much micro, and even his abilities don't require much babysitting. One of the least involved commanders, but his mass cloaking and all-around strength means he's certainly viable.
