If I get home on Thursday then I will approximately have two days to finish this bitch. Thins will go as usual - a heck ton of energy drinks, one pepperoni pizza and a whole lot of self hate.
I am also making Octavia a whole lot darker this time around. More clues are given that relate to why pinkie pie is involved. Every scene and fight you'll encounter will reward you with information instead of being a pretentious gig. Trixie fight is legit now. And most of all, the difficulty of the game has drastically decreased with enemies being harder if you wish them to be harder - it goes with Snips : Snaps, Snails : Two tails dynamic.

Thank you. I try my best with designs. Having an idea is one thing but making it into reality is a whole different story.
>>How long does it take you to make a full sprite and what is the creativity process for you?
It's very hard. Sometimes I take a break from drawing just for all those thoughts to sink in. The key to making sprites is consistency and when you spend too much time developing a certain sprite is most likely to stick out from the rest in an unfitting way. I'd say the process usually take from 2 to 5 days, assuming I work without being distracted.

Yes, more like post processing and adding some extra layers and finishing touches.
>>does the game engion handle the light? It does (to some extent) allow shadows & lighting manipulation but since it's my irst time making something on this engine I just went with drawing everything in photoshop to avoid complications. Still, the game project is messy as hell at this point. I'm afraid of sorting things out because I forgot which stuf does what. And although it's messy, I learned to be more organised in the future.

>>3200My favourite part is realizing that something you make becomes real. Something that starts off as a scrapped stupid idea turns into something beautiul in its own way. Just a mere thought of a shitty game reaching out to someone more than yourself is worth a while.
The creative proccess behind it is not however. My least favoutite part of developing this game is, quite ironically, developing this game. First reason is a creative freedom I am faced with. Since I am the one guy who tells a story, draws sprites and works on gameplay, I have no Idea what is right and what is wrong to do in any of these fields until I try something first. I don't have quality control because my possibilities are limitless to begin with. Second problem is a constant creator's fever. You know, the one that goes along the lines of "It's not the way I want it be so I hate it" kind of thing. A creator can never be satisfied with his own creation. That's just how it goes with people. Also this fever inspired me to add a "compose" skill to Octavia. When used, Octavia will try to compose some music but she'll get pissed because she is not satisfied with what she makes of it.
I don't know why but for some reason you can't work on your craft unless some miraculous conditions in your head are met and you just start firing one good idea after another.

>killing the protagonist is a boring cliche so feel free to add your two cents regarding what I just told you. It can be, but it also can be very impactful still. I will need to see the final version before I can decide but what I ask you is how does it make you feel?
>>3211>So yeah, I decided for Octy to be depicted as idealistic as possible. She has no flaws when you start the game. She obtains them during your playthrough. This game feels like it should be a Neo-fandom classic. Like it's the evovled form of shitposts like Luna game and early good concepts like the Story of the Blanks.
No.3215
>>3214>What was the old theme and how much labor did it take to change a theme? There was a theme of being edgy for a sake of edgy, to show the world that pony games can be this way. You can see that by pinpointing such scenes as Octavia brutally murdering Snails with scissors or Octavia smashing Vinyl on the head for not paying attention. In other words, all this time until a couple of weeks ago I was trusting my ambitions when in reality I should've done a little less of that. Now I have chosen a different approach to how a story should be told. And that approach is all about rational thinking. Some scenes are distracting, meaningless. Without a proper direction to lead a story, the old version of the game had certainly lost its weight. Appeal comes through simplifying the story elements, organizing them in such a way that they highlight one another, relate to one another. And now that the key to how things should relate (i.e. the theme of identity loss) is now decided, it became much easier to work on how certain story elements are brought to light.
As for how much it took to adjust the game to the new theme, I'll say - not so much. You see, Identity loss was what I've been trying to depict from the start but couldn't quite put my finger on it. And now I am on my right mind to finally finish telling the story in a way that can make it feel compleated and meaningful.
>how does it make you feel?I feel relief, frankly, that I've found a way to bring a story to conclusion. Of all different ways I've tried to end a story, this one resonates in my heart. I am still worried a little that octavia doesnt turn into a monster if she beats trixie without wearing a hat. Touching a hat logically implies that touching trixie would lead to the same transformation process. But, on the other hand, that's not for me to decide how a player would intepret it.
>This game feels like it should be a Neo-fandom classicHow about a renaissance classic? Some players feel nostalgic about this game, calling it a chilling gift from tender times of 2012, when the majority of pony fandom was into creepypasta and edgy stuff.

It just has to show: when you make content you shouldn't raise your expectations. I am myself guilty of taking it too personally since I've tried so hard making my voice heard, imagening the sweet sweet aftertaste of talking to fans. You see… It all started when I began designing the fight between Berry and Mutated Octavia in Element of Lust. If you interact with The remains of Twilight, you'll see a dialog box describing that "despite Octavia being dead, the grip is still strong". I thought about the implications of that and came up with a cool idea that monster Octavia is blind so she held to Twilight like it was Vinyl. But with the way the ending cutscene goes, it's harder to see things that way since it focuses on Vinyl's drug addiction and vinyl stealing money. This is when I realized that some changes need to be done in element of justice to fit a much more wholesome narrative. I hold to this update dearly because it focuses on the main issues with the story. It doesn't fix the playability but rather it stiches game's most broken and unwanted parts. So I will cover in full detail what was added and the reason something got removed.
WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD.
Ending cutscene with vinyl
This scene plays after you defeat trixie with a hat on. In it Vinyl shows up out of nowhere and gives Octy some hard time. I'll tell you right away - I hate this scene. Or at least I used to. Here are things I hate:
-If Vinyl can't remember vandalizing Trixie's wagon, how does she know that she did it?
Second problem is in Octavia's wording. You don't reply "it's okay" to someone who just confessed about stealing your money. Giving some comfort to a friend is fine but you can't just call it okay right after you hear the shoking news. That implies that Octy is saying she's okay with being taken advantage of. She is not. Lastly, I just don't like the mood that was setting in. This scene is supposed to depict Octy's last moments of fleeting consciousness, but insted it presents itself as a flashback that explains what pushed Vinyl to draw stuff on Trixies wagon. (Spoiler - it was drugs.)
Here's a real question to be answered:
-Do you actually give a fuck?
You don't. As a player, you've spent only a minute with those two characters and it's not enough to be emotionally invested in their stories. You know absolutely nothing about them and without knowing more you don't feel the need to actually care if they succeed or fail. This is a problem number three. So to solve Them I completely rewrote the setup. Now in this cutschene Vinyl recalls on her apology and tries to figure out what went wrong. I abandoned the flashback idea and made it more of a surreal event. In this event Vinyl blames herself for trixie going berserk. Vinyl thinks she messed something up in her apology. And she is right.
I like the new choice of words because it reveals that apologizing to Trixie was Octavia's idea. Even more so, Octavia gave Vinyl a lesson about what exactly she should say, which speaks volumes about ther relationship. It makes sense that something has caused Vinyl to overcome her drug addiction. That something was Octavia watching Vinyl's every step and moderating everything she does or says.
The last cutscene ends with Octavia hugging Vinyl and saying "it's okay". Then petting her and saying "it's okay" again. It works much better than Octavia explaining something you don't care about. And it gives you the fake essence of the moment since you know this is happening right now. Not somewhere in the past.
I know that at this point noone on earth would care about this game but that doesn't make me less hesitant to work on it and improve myself.

>-Slight timing improvements, such as pauses between actions to make things look natural.Good!

No.3248
>>3247>I like it though it seems like a minor change. Any reason why?I guess that was a rushed decision. The whole idea was that octavia's mane was perfectly black before she met Vinyl, meaning she got gray hair later on. I've tried changing the sprite but when I did it, The results turned out to be bleak and distracting. So I scrapped that.
>That seems big, don't want to spoiler it so no comment.I explained the scene in my second comment.
Anyway, this update is just for connecting the ties together. I might even hold it and update the game after releasing the sequel.
No.3249
>>3247>What do you mean by more dynamic? My bad. I meant that some action lines that log describes are phrased in a way to be more concise. For example "Octy lets her tongue out" does not feel like the right choice of words while "Octy rolls her tongue out" fits much better.

Octavia's dialog is being rewritten to be more british.
Violin is not Octavia's forte. She holds it in between her legs, which is a far more appropriate choice for playing a cello rather than a violin.
The bow strings are made of horsehair. And yes. Octavia uses her own.
Some horseshoes have magnet implants for holding specific objects. Octavia has one for holding a fiddle stick.
The most prominent theme in Octavia's character is that she never smiles and puts other's needs ahead of her own.
Vinyl's drug addiction is no longer mentioned and it's only vaguely hinted. The description of Vinyl's glasses now reads: "A pair of glasses with darkened lenses capable of hiding tears or shrunken eyes" Shurnken eyes refer to pupil constriction, which in medical terms is caused my heroin use.
(I am not a native so I am unsure about this phrase "shrunken eyes" Please correct me if I am wrong and weither or not its gramatically correct to use "shrunken pupils" instead)
Trixie has teeth and her eyes are bleeding when she murders Vinyl. It is done to create some sort of suspence when you don't know how worse trixie decays when you face her in the final battle. Also now Trixie has a new "chop" attack, which reads:
"Trixie bites Octy. Luckily she cant."
"81 ponies before you weren't as lucky."
This implies that she was biting other ponies before her teeth feel out, explaining her loss of teeth and the havock in the streets as those who were bitten most likely have turned too.

>shrunken eyesIn a descriptive sense you could probably get away with 'shrunken pupils' but 'shrunken eys' is the way I've usually heard it.

Trixie has already lost her teeth in the intro. So it doesn't make sense if she looses them later in the game. I removed that.
>>3259It's barely hinted that way. There is a chance pinkie will assault you if you carry Tiara around. She will lick Tiara several times and retreat. You can talk to pinkie after that and she will say things like " It wasn't me. How am I supposed to do that if I can't walk with a broken leg? It's probably one of my clones."
"It's called a broken hoof defense. Ask any lawyer."
At least now it is explained why the hoof is detached. Pinkie is a changeling in disguise. Changelings have THE URGE. And when changelings have THE URGE they FEAST. Pinkie did it so many times that her morning wood lost sensitivity, forcing her to molest smaller beings to allow better friction. Each of mane six was replaced with a changeling from the beginning. You will know more when element of lust comes out.
