Rachel has a big riot shield, which can be deployed to reduce the odds of incoming fire hitting by -2. HOWEVER, having that shield deployed slows her down. Now, it makes sense that most of this was done with her in jet-form and juking around, but it bears mentioning that while she was doing all that flying around, she wouldn't be benefiting from the shield's bonuses.
In other words, you can be flighty and fragile, or you can plant yourself and be able to take a hit, but you can't do both.

Worst comes to worst, I'll just add in a link to the doc with the weapon summaries, so people can get the main idea from the main doc, then go to the link for the number-crunch version.
Also nerfed the Missile Rack by cutting it's ammo capacity in half; now it's just like all the other Explosive options and needs to be reloaded after being fired once.
I think having abilities get negated by cover is something that needs changing, for several reasons, though the main ones are that the majority of abilities that deal damage are either Melee abilities (and thus unaffected by cover anyway, outside of somebody having a shield), or explicitly ignore cover.

Though I think you're misremembering the effect of cover; it doesn't necessarily reduce damage, it makes you harder to hit. I suppose that can mean that it's somewhat reducing damage, if the point at which they start taking damage is higher.
With Abilities it's much more clear, especially with non-damaging Abilities. They either affect the target or they don't, and that increased penalty to hit means a smaller window in which they get it to hit.

The worst part of them is that if they crit, they inflict both the Crippled penalty AND the Cut penalty.
Of course, it's a Melee weapon, and having multiple rolls can backfire by increasing the odds of a critfail.

I have just discovered an oversight, both on my part and that of everyone else. "Effective range" for weapons is not written as the optimal range for weapons, it's the extreme limits of their range, and thus suffers a -1 penalty.
I'm tempted to just rewrite the rule to say it's the farthest the weapon can shoot without penalty, but you should have a say in this too. Would you like things to stay as they are, or does this shift sound interesting? Because honestly, it might shake things up a bit and make those devoted long-range options more tempting.

Hopefully this helps clarify exactly what everybody's gun does.
It's also worth noting that we've discovered an oversight: a weapon's effective range is the farthest that it CAN fire and still have effect, NOT, as we previously assumed, the furthest you could fire without penalty. This means that attacks at Effective Range suffer a -1 penalty.
Most of you invested in your skills enough to get a +1 with your weapon of choice, so you probably won't be shooting with a penalty at max range. However, you won't be shooting with a bonus, either. Something to keep in mind the next time things go south!

…Though I should also mention, the Ripper and Chainsaw get increased critfail range for a reason.

It's great for the players, but it's a nightmare for a GM if the players aren't keeping track of their own bonuses and skills.

Halcyon 6 is pretty fun, at least it has been for me. It does a really good job of making you run around trying to get your ships collecting as many materials as possible, and you never have enough to do everything, so you have to pick and choose between drones to automate resource collection from one place, or a new warship, or a new building, and all of this takes time and the focus of one of your officers, of which you don't have many.
I don't know if it starts falling apart once you've got drones at every resource-place, but so far the pace has been pretty good, and I've had fun. Not sure I'm going to win this first game, but I'm having fun.

>>857572You're a research outpost at a recently-discovered Precursor space-station, studying it for the human Federation, when suddenly the fleet defending you gets recalled, the redevous point is empty, and a sentient flesh-planet shows up and wipes them- and presumably most of the Federation- out. Your job is to recruit Officers, make contact with other colonies and outposts(your source of revenue for the various types of resources), build warships for your Officers to fight off pirates and the flesh-monsters that keep coming in and harassing your resource colonies, Expand into the Precursor station to build up your base (functions very similarly to XCOM's base-building system), diplomating with aliens, and generally trying to pick up the pieces of the Federation.
You spend most of the game flying your officers around, either collecting resources or hunting down hostile fleets of ships. It's very much a resource-management game, but the combat's not too bad- different areas can have different effects on ships (mostly in the form of +100% resistance to Status Effect #1 or something similar), which makes you have to choose a variety of skills that doesn't rely on any one specific strategy, because if you do and there's a battle where ships are immune to the key part of the strategy, you're screwed.
