>>3950 "I don't know what they're going to do with it, or even if they'll be able to get it out safely. I'm directing you to them because they'll know."
>>3976 "I heard that city trainers don't love their pokemon, but how could so many from a town like this forget.." I look sad for a moment and then. "Oh, is it okay to have pokemon at table? I want you to meet Solaire, since you've been so nice to me."
>>3982 Nod and let out oddish. "Solaire meet Shauna's parents, they're really nice people." check their reactions carefully while smiling with pride. '1d10'
Her father clears her throat. "Shauna, your mother and I have been talking about this throughout the night. We know your friend helped you catch a Pokemon."
Shauna gasps. "How did you know?!"
"Moms just know these things."
"In any case… we've decided to let you keep it."
"Oh! That's really good news!"
"But you need to be responsible for it, or else it will go back into the wild."
>>4002 "I'm not sure. I guess I'll find out when I get there. It will be like a surprise!" I giggle a bit. '1d10' watch my step while walking toward the shrine. I might step on a bug by accident!
>>4003 You traverse the remainder of the Forest Road unmolested, and arrive at the gates of Fandango City.
>>4004 The bugs here seem pretty used to avoiding being stepped on, so you have no trouble evading them.
You arrive at the shrine – it looks pretty normal. It's a nice building – concrete, even, which isn't common out here in the countryside. Last place you saw that was in Fandango with those big, modern docks.
>>4005 >>3841 Right, now that I've got a few new additions, I'll head back into Crimsonborough proper. Get everyone healed up. Then start towards Cyan city. I'm going to need a water type for the fire shrine.
>>4006 This is the closest thing you've seen to a city since you left Vanilla: there's a large, modern dock here, and the city – though mostly old, is undergoing rapid expansion. New buildings, new houses… the smell of progress is in the air. Down at the docks, fishermen pass the day catching what they can.
>>4007 You knock on the door, and a shrine worker lets you in, along with Shauna. He leads you up a flight of stairs, and you can see the main room of the shrine from here through a pane of glass – it's full of hives, and swarming with Combee!
The shrine worker offers you some special clothes.
>>4011 "Quite a bit, yes! And we also provide these Combee with a home – we usually rescue them from swarms or hives that have lost their Vespiqueen and wouldn't survive otherwise."
>>4013 There's a road out the north side that leads to Sapshire – the Market Road. To the northwest, there's a trail that has a sign indicating it leads to the city's shrine. You note the red roof of the Pokecenter. Down at the docks, Fishermen are busy collecting a bounty of Tentacool. There's a fancy cruise liner here, but there are also smaller vessels.
>>4017 "Sometimes it's natural – bad luck with weather, disease, hive wars. Other times, city trainers come in and catch them with no regards for how that will affect the local Combee."
>>4016 You're assaulted by a Ekans from above! You're in charge, Wilbur!
>>4018 They sell a little of everything – pokeballs, great balls, ultra balls, potions, super potions, max potions, escape ropes, smoke balls.
The man at the county notes you looking around. "We also do specials that change daily, usually related to trading. Today's special is Reaper Cloth!"
>>4019 "A reaper cloth? That's something for a ghost type, right?" I'll peruse the balls. How much do they look like they cost? "And I'm surprised you've got everything laid out here. Usually stores need at least two certifications to even put out Great balls."
>>4027 Look at Shauna with a smile and light in my eyes. "Really?" and then nod returning focus to the battle. "Alright! Be careful Solaire. Use a sleep powder on that Heracross." '1d10'
>>4027 "I've got mine, thanks." After the money has exchanged hands, I'll look around the store a little. "You wouldn't happen to know where I could have a decent shot at running into water types without a fishing rod, do you?"
>>4040 Give Shauna a high five in excitement "Wow! Our first double battle! We are so awesome!" But then let the excitement fade "A swarm.." I look worriedly at Solaire. "I hope it won't be like those weedle.."
>>4050 "The shrine aids tell me that you take in orphaned hives, and make honey..but they would fight each other if they didn't have a single queen …Does that mean your pokemon is the Queen?"
>>4052 "What? No… I'm just here for the dungeon season, I have no trades right now."
>>4053 "Yes, that is true. It is funny sometimes… how two figures with authority can waste many lives over a petty conflict between just the two of them – like a war between Vespiquens."
>>4061 Close my eyes a moment whisper "our land" and nod firmly. "I think I understand that, bugs are alert to everything around them, and aggressive because they want to protect their land. But a Vespiqueen doesn't fight herself does she?"
>>4066 "Ah, yes… the EE-nig-er… hmm? E… EEEE? The EEE NIGH MATT IC newcomer reveals himself to the master… Yes, I can tell you all about dune-johns – we've just started a new season. I can tell you're still a little green for them, but the long story short is that we delve into the lairs of extremely powerful Pokemon as a group in search of loot and experience. Pokemon there are much harder to catch - most of the time it's impossible or near impossible, even with high quality balls. Anyway, come back when you're less green and you can group up for a crawl."
>>4068 "Okay…?" Guess that's that. I'll keep that in mind, since I might be able to find legendary pokemon like Bismarck's Meloetta on those dungeon crawls. Head over to the other two cooltrainers who are roughly my age. "Are either of you trading, or are you here for dungeon season?"
Solaire was hurt by Combee! You notice that Dwebble is holding something that seems to be warding off the swarms.

>>4091 You arrive in Cyan City without any other notable encounters. It's small for a city, but still bigger than Crimsonborough. There is a great dock here, and a large number of fishermen on the beach.
>>4108 "Those'll be next door, in the tackle shop, I'm afraid. So you're from thereabouts of Fandango City? Maybe a little further down… you look the city type, so maybe some of the new money from that place?"
>>4110 I'll shake my head. "I'm out of Phlox, ma'am. Came here over the bridge, and was hoping to add a water type or two to my group." I'll scratch my head. "But if you don't sell rods and things, what do you sell in an adventure shop?"
>>4113 "Oh, so not literally off the boat. This shop sells things like Pokeballs, Escape Ropes… the essentials. You must be used to those fancy big city MARTs."
>>4114 "Ohh. And while I'm used to it, it's interesting seeing what people out this way have on their shelves. There was this one shop near the bridge that had stuff like specialty balls, and higher grade pokeballs, for sale. Even though they were a bit pricier, the fact they're available to someone with less than two certifications is a pretty good selling point…"
>>4117 "I don't know how those MARTs get their prices so low… they're destroying local businesses – you can't even find small shops like this one in the Rings anymore."
>>4119 "Probably because of the certification thing. When most people don't bother getting more than three or four, they really don't need to put much effort into selling the more expensive stuff, and just push out all the lower-quality items." I'll shrug. "But then again, I'm 14. What do I know about businesses and mass market chains?" Shaking my head, I'll continue. "Thanks for showing me your stock, though. I've got a fishing rod to buy, so I guess I'll be heading out."
>>4143 "Thanks! And I will." I'll… head to the Pokemon Center, and swap out Sleepy for Eggward. If I'm going to be hunting water types, having a grass type will be useful. Be sure to check what moves he knows.
>>4155 "Correct. Well, technically speaking, the passport itself is free. What you're paying is the processing fee – basically the cost of the government to pay for someone to check all the information and get your passport printed, et cetera."
"Shut up, idiot, he knows that." A second guard tells him, annoyed.
"Anyway… point is that for just 2000P, we can send in your application. You can get it back in as little as a few hours, at most a day."
>>4156 You're attacked by a horde of Zubat!! They seem strange!
"I'm using a Good Rod. They're the staple for catching Water Types – though the pros use Super Rod. I hear some specialists even have better rods than that."
"Congratulations! You have won out, with your friends at your side, and earned the Swarm Badge! You now understand what it means to exist as part of a unit; symbiosis: we all need each other, and our Pokemon partners – to live in this world! I'd also like to give you this for winning: TM89! TM89 contains U-Turn: it lets you attack an enemy while switching to a different Pokemon. Use it to make your swarm work more efficiently as a team!"
>>4178 "Yes! You did it Solaire!" celebrate a moment and then examine the TM. "Whoa! A move that lets you attack and switch out!" and then focus back on the shrine leader "Thank you for sharing your lesson with me."

>>4213 Groggy though you may be, today is an exciting day: today is your last day at the Tianxia State Academy for Pokemon Trainers, the most prestigious school in your country.
If you can pass the National Trainers' Exam today, you will graduate and become a full Pokemon trainer! It looks like you slept through the review session, though… the test will be starting soon. Your roommate is long since gone.
Glancing around your chambers you notice your PC, your random effects… clothes, backpack, wallet, and most importantly, your Pokedex. This is the new gen – Pokedex 7. It has all the features of a Pokegear and more built in. Phone, flashlight, video camera, and of course, the most accurate useful Pokedex functions to date. It can on the fly identify Pokemon by type, information, level, and wild/owned status.
>>4219 Your school is quite nice: the nicest in the country, and it has both a reputation and bill to match. You are thankful that your parents could afford to send you here. For the last two years you've been learning the fundamentals of Pokemon training, and now you're on the way to the test that will decide if you were paying attention. You pass through the quad, thick with greenery, water features, and braziers and absently wonder if they're intended to represent the Types. Your education, after all, has focused on Composition of teams.
>>4223 Most of your classmates… soon to be former classmates… are already at their desks. Your teacher gives you a relieved nod over on the other side of the room and heads over to a desk, indicating you should sit down and placing a test face-down.
"The test will start promptly at 2:25."
That's 3 minutes from now…
>>4224 You reach Phlox City without any further incident: you weren't far, and in day, you carefully avoid the tall grass.
Arriving at the gates of Phlox City, you flash your pass and head back into the welcoming big city.
>>4227 The time for review is over, they announce it's time to begin!
Once you see the test, you feel a lot more relieved. There are 40 questions, and you immediately answer 35 of them with confidence. Only five of them give you pause long enough to even think about them.
1. A hypothetical typing of Poison/Steel would be 4x weak to _______.
2. Overall, the typing with the best ratio of resistances and weaknesses is _______.
3. The type which typically levels up and evolves faster than any other is ________.
4. Of the 18 types, this is the only type to have dual type Pokemon shared with all other 17 types. __________
5. These are the only two types which mutually are immune to each other. _______ and ________
>>4230 Right you are. The northern gym of Bonding. It's right next to the old Battlespire – the academy that Chris is from. You'd need a trainer card to challenge that gym, though…
>>4232 Alright, let's head back to the center, and get everyone healed up. Hmm. Should I head back to Crimsonborough and check out their shrine, which I know where is, or see if Cyan city has a shrine too? Let's ask the nurse on duty if there is a pokemon shrine in town.
>>4236 "Pardon me, nurse, but is there a Pokemon type shrine in Cyan city? I noticed there was one in Crimsonborough, and one in Phlox, so I wanted to ask if there were one here, too."
>>4237 You recall that anyone can receive a Trainer Card by passing the Tianxia National Trainers' Exam, though you'd need to find somewhere they administer it.
Unless that was a more general 'what else can I do' – there are two other routes that don't lead to Server Valley, and Phlox City you know from growing up here is full of sights.
>>4240 Right, that. Oh well. It's not that important. Let's see what else I can find here. You live somewhere and you never take the time to check it out.
>>4242 "Like I said, I've never been, though I've heard it's out near the waterfall at the center of Cyan Island."
>>4243 You notice a few other classmates have already finished their tests. They're headed into the backroom to hand them in. Once you're ready, you should head in there and see if you passed.
>>4244 There's a reason Phlox City is one of the most popular, bustling, tourist attractions in all of Tianxia. Every summer you deal with thousands of tourists flocking to see the bright sights of Phlox. Everything here is beautiful from the painted buildings to the guerrilla art on the sidewalks. You never really had much of an appreciation for it before, when you were always cooped up in your room. The Psychic Shrine is here, along with an abundance of Pokemon bonding amenities, such as Name Raters, Pokemon Salons, Massage Parlors, and of course, the core of Tianxia's PokePuff and Poffin industries.
>>4245 "Thank you very much." And I'll get the team back, switch out Cinder and Nimbus for Pearl and Sleepy, and head to that waterfall. Quick move check on Pearl, by the way.
>>4247 You head into the back room, and your teacher gives you a smile. "Think you did well? You were always a good student: I'm sure you'll pass. Just stick it into the machine when you're ready."
There's an auto-grader ready to receive your paper.
>>4246 This place is brimming with stores for Poffins. Should you look for an upscale or cheaper place? You have nearly as many to choose from as restaurants.
"Impressive! You missed only one – see this one here? The Flying type shares Pokemon with all other types, though mostly Normal."
You realize that even if you had missed all five you thought about, the other 35 would have cushioned you. Fucking modern casual video game difficulty. You'll complain about this on an imageboard later, but now you can't complain, because your Trainer Card is printing out! Hey, it even has your picture on it!
"Congratuations on graduating, Kenneth, I knew you had it in you. If you follow me into the next room I'll give you your first partner on your journey."
>>4254 I smile and poke his horn, then return him to his ball. … I'm not sure I'm ready for another shrine just yet. I'll return to town for some healing.
>>4256 "As the school with the most resources in the county, we pride ourselves in giving trainers far more choice in their first partner than any other academy. Any type you choose, we can provide you with three choices. You indicated on your entrance forms two years ago that you prefer Electric types. Is that still true?"
>>4257 Do do dododo. It's a relief to get out of that hot sauna steam.
>>4258 Most of them here are 100 or 200P. You can see bags of the mass-produced stuff that have 20 for 1000P. Being a trainer on a budget is rough.
>>4260 "We have three Electric types that have traditionally proven popular with students. Electric is a tricky typing to find this far East, of course."
He dials something into a dispenser and then steps aside. There are pictures of three Pokemon here:
>>4265 The Market Road it is. North of Fandango City, this place is pretty cleared out in favor of making travel easy. That's not to say it isn't swarming with Poison Bug pokemon – they're just easy to see outside the tall grass.
There are also plenty of trainers here, catching them.
>>4273 Mareep shakes herself out in the hall, a bit disoriented. You suspect she might have spent a long time in that ball. Confusedly, she regards you with curiosity.
>>4272 South to the Trash Route. This place is not a pretty picture, but what are you going to do? Roll to traverse or look for Pokemon.
>>4274 I kneel down, reach my hand out and pat Mareep on the head. "Hey there, we'll be travelling together from now on. I'm Kenneth. Mind if I call you Storm?
>>4277 As you're pushing aside some crates, find something weird. There's a really ancient Pokegear that is obviously totally crushed to the point where it shouldn't be working, but the screen is still on. What?
>>4278 Mareep gives a full-body shake when you touch it, and the static of your fingers running through its thick wool sends off sparks everywhere. Still, you doubt it has any opinions about names while so disoriented as is.
You make it outside of the Academy without further incident and into Covalent City… the Gateway to the East. It's been a long time since you've been out in the city proper with the intent of going anywhere without returning. You can see Battle Tower from here, and because you're on a hill, the twin roads out east.
>>4284 "No fair…" The bug catcher flees to go heal.
>>4290 Mareep Wool Pokémon Type: Electric Status: Owned Apx Level: 5 Its fluffy coat swells to double when static electricity builds up. Touching it can be shocking. [See More]
That'd be in the local Pokecenter. You flash your Trainer Card and they offer to sell you Pokeballs, Potions, and Mail.
>>4293 I'll purchase two Pokeballs, then make my way towards Route 9. I'll also let Storm out of her ball after I buy the balls, so she can stretch her legs.
>>4299 "They can be purchased here. Purchasing a permit allows the Department of Wildlife to help preserve these endangered Pokemon so that generations to come will be able to enjoy them. You buy a permit for each Pokemon you want to catch on this route – it's the only reserve route in Tianxia, anywhere else is free. Pokemon with a final form that is dual type cost 4000P, and monotypes are 2000P."
>>4303 "You're still allowed to traverse it toward Phlox City if you stay inside the gated area. Have a nice day – and don't mention it, it's what we're here for."
Storm seems to have gathered herself now and is following you, albeit looking about nervously. The city seems to be a bit sensory overload: route 10 will be good for here. And good for you, too: This route is quite a sight. Compared to the drab, efficient concrete of Covalent City, Route 10 is a welcome splash of color. The treeline here is full of berries, a number of which have fallen freely to the ground. Pokemon and trainers alike gorge themselves on the free food. Not bad!
>>4304 Porygon used Psybeam! It was a critical hit! Nightlight fainted!

>>4355 I smile. "Heh. That's not a bad thing, you know? It's good to be a little weird. Just look at who else I run with." I pop out Millia to show him.
>>4409 "Folks are a lot less concerned about Pokemon in the city… most won't stop to give ya the time of day, and besides – other trainers hate each other so much they'll fight any time they lock eyes."
>>4414 "Cities are strange places… it's almost as though they've traded their empathy for their marvels. Amazing machines are built in the city… That's where your Pokedex comes from. It's something you'd have to see for yourself."

>>4472 The datacenter is a large and imposing concrete building with windows only on the first floor, which is odd, but you don't make a fuss about it as you head inside. There's a large lobby, and a woman at the desk.
>>4471 Awesome, now bring it back to where snorlax is blocking the road.. and find a good place to set the honey comb so I can try to lure Snorlax off the road. Have Venom help with this. '1d10'
>>4478 "I'm afraid not. By that I mean, I have reason to believe one of my pokemon has been removed from the box system by the administrators, and I've come here to retrieve it."
"Well, well, it seems you've come through the other side victorious. Not bad. For defeating me, you've won the antidote to that sleep poison, and the Mist Badge – for learning that with your team, you can cut through the mists of deception. I'd also like to give you TM36 – Sludge Bomb. Sludge Bomb packs a punch and has a chance to poison."
>>4485 "Hey, you're back! So soon, too. I thought I'd heard you'd head out of town."
>>4495 "Oh, we always get interesting folks from the docks. Most interesting for me was my Great Ball shipment just got in! In fact, if you want to upgrade those 2 Pokeballs to Greatballs, I have a special price going on. It would just be 500P more for both, not each. As for folks coming in instead of product – I'm a little worried. That big megachain, MART, is starting to build a kiosk in the local Center…"
>>4496 You turn around… the swirling mists still surround you on all sides. You cannot navigate them.
>>4498 "Only 500 more? That sounds like a deal." I smile and then frown a bit "A MART here? That sounds like bad news. But at least you have interesting items to sell, plus you're really nice!"
>>4500 "Oh ho ho, you flatter me, but you know for some folks it's all about where you can save more. I'm afraid they'll run me out of town like they did to the shops in the Rings."
>>4510 This floor is full of cubicles, but it's a lot more busy! People are talking through walls, throwing paper planes, and chatting on phones, all while sitting at computers.
>>4509 There's a girl here, chatting with an old-but-not-quite-elderly shopkeeper.
He nods, "That's not a bad idea, but I wonder what people want? Oh well – food for thought. Oh, sorry – just a moment. Sorry, welcome to the shop miss. Just have a look around for what you need."
>>4511 He nods, "That's not a bad idea, but I wonder what people want? Oh well – food for thought. Oh, sorry – just a moment. Sorry, welcome to the shop miss. Just have a look around for what you need."
"Excuse me… I'm a visitor here, but your receptionist would not receive me. I need to know if there's a department here that hold pokemon that had to be extracted from the PC system."
>>4512 Curiously examine the newcomer. "Food is the right track of mind! A snack that can only be found here! Maybe.. something with bread and honey? Sapshire has loads of honey, and Harvest Plains has loads of bread, both of those are close by!"
>>4521 "Excuse me, but do you sell berries or pokéfood here too? Pokéblocks maybe?"
>>4522 "Oh, no, I just thought you approached me looking for a challenge! I just got back from the shrine here in town. And no, I came in from the south road."
>>4525 "Well… I wouldn't say that. But it doesn't matter now, I got what I came for. All that's left to do now is to somehow reward my team for fighting so well."
>>4526 "Hey, uh, excuse me? Your colleague told me you might be able to help me. See, I believe a Pokemon of mine has been removed by you guys from the system, and you guys might be holding onto it now."
He minimizes his other screen and uses both hands for a minute, typing something into a command box.
"Nasty piece of work. Actually kept me interested for a few minutes. Backdoor is closed, now. Frankly should've done it ages ago, but corporate wants more optimized size data. Anyway, barely anyone uses boxes anymore."
Another round of tapping on his keyboard.
"Gimme a sec."
He reaches down and pulls out some kind of weird electronic USB device and plugs it into his computer, then taps away some more. "Got a Pokeball on you?"
>>4527 "That's a good idea. But you said you came from the south, does that mean you're leaving on the docks, or are you going north?" I look curiously at you. "I'm Emily by the way."
>>4533 "My name is Hannah, I'm from Adapt City! I think I'll actually go back the way I came! I challenged a gym there and lost, so I wanted to give it another shot now that I'm stronger."
As he works he remarks distractedly, "Well, most people don't have more than six Pokemon anyway… the super rich have ways of getting around it… and yeah most trainers are being PC about their PC, if you get my meaning. Environmentalist movement, load of crap. If you don't want to abandon your Pokemon, how about you stop at six? Anyway, point being people are moving away from boxes. Which is terrible for us because we use Porygon for all our testing because they love Boxes. They were made for Boxes."
He sticks it on the device and taps away some more. The device and ball buzz and slide down the desk a few inches.
"Gotcha… and uh, one sec…"
He prints something out from the computer.
"Here… a voucher for a new Pokeball at a MART. It has to be a MART, though – part of the chain, got it? You good? We good? All good? Okay good. Have a nice day, brotha."
With that he returns to coding with one hand and browsing with his other.
>>4532 "Sure, sure. Anything I can do for you here?"
>>4535 Look at my map for adapt city. "Oh, that means you've been to vanilla city. Have you ever heard of either of these items? A Monitor Sash or a Smoker?"
>>4536 "Oh, goodness… thank you so much. And I'm very sorry for all the trouble I caused. How does one safely keep a Rotom? Also, I had thought most people thought of 'catching them all' quite favourable. I mean, I don't know if I want to do that, I learned to breed Pokemon. But it's pretty hard to imagine stopping at 6 when there are so many to raise."
>>4538 Aw. "Well actually… I should probably make sure I'm better prepared. I'll buy one of these super potions."
>>4539 "I've heard of a focus sash… but not of those two items you just mentioned, sorry. There's an academy there that teaches all about items. I'm sure the teachers there will be able to help you."
>>4542 "I don't think so. I can't imagine raising them all. Though one day I might have to start catching a lot, if my dreams of research are going to come true."
>>4545 "I detect confusion in your voice, oh Swami. This building has a blocker on it to prevent the system from automatically transporting your seventh Pokemon to the system for research purposes. You should deposit one down on a public terminal on floor one before you go or it'll be roulette. As for your answer… eh, take this anyway."
He types at an extremely rapid pace, going through eight windows in less than a second! A CD pops out and he hands it to you.
>>4554 Smile and put it away. "That means I can use it when Solaire is ready. Thanks Hannah.." then blink "Oh, you said you were hungry, lets go to the doughnut shop for a snack while we talk, I'd love to meet your Eevee as well."
>>4558 No maps about. This place is full of homogenous fancy buildings – mostly filled with windows. The thing that made the datacenter stand out was the lack of windows. You do see specific signs for a fossil research institute, the local gym, tons of restaurants, a few companies, the national pokedex compilation center, and more.
>>4559 It looks like more of a minimart with a doughnut factory built in, but the name is indeed Doughnut King.
>>4568 Oh my bad, I thought you wanted to go to the Pokemon Center.
You head over to the National Pokedex Datacenter from here. You can't get any further than the lobby before the secretary stops you.
>>4569 >>4570 "600P for a dozen fresh doughnuts, or 80P a piece. You can get whatever toppings you want, too."
He indicates some classic glazed doughnuts – they're just rice. Sprinkle doughnuts – they have steamed vegetables inside. And of course, who can forget delicious chocolate doughnuts? They're coated in vinegar and are pressed around sashimi.
>>4575 Into the national archives it is. It is very quiet here – you see a sign asking as much. People are studying large books and at computer terminals here, but most of the room is taken up by shelves and huge computer servers. Whenever you look something up from your Pokedex, it's coming from this room!
>>4577 >>4579 >>4580 Follow her and stand a bit back from the bench so I can let out my team. "Yeah, they look really good." Show them the doughnuts to see which ones they gravitate towards '1d10' to observe
>>4582 Solaire carefully smells each one before choosing a sprinkled doughnut.
Rena skiddishly prods at a plain one.
Blue scarfs a chocolate doughnut immediately. You suspect he has a Gung-Ho nature.
Willow prods at a chocolate doughnut with her nose before eating it.
Venom nibbles on a glazed doughnut.
Blink nips up a sprinkle doughnut and retreats below.
>>4584 Clyde looks to you as if unsure they're allowed.
Wilbur sweeps down and nabs a chocolate doughnut, though. And Lyra equally quickly grabs a sprinkle.
Miles takes cues from Clyde, and Durian slowly rolls over to the pile, where he selects a glazed Doughnut.

>>4586 There's nothing here on amorphous organisms, is there? Shame.
I think it's time I headed back to Amber. Time to kick off that project. Do a last search for amorphous stuff and if there isn't, head for the route to Amber. Through Adept City? right? Right, I wanted to visit there too, actually.
>>4590 Smile at her. "There you go Rena, its pretty good huh." >>4593 '1d10' do her pokemon seem to like her, I've heard some odd things about city trainers..

>>4595 Sunlight huh.. Maybe.. "Hey, You want to ride on my hat for a while Rena?" offer her my hands to lift her up there. "You could get more sunlight that way." >>4591 "Say Hannah, how long have you had your pokemon?"
>>4598 "I see, you sure seem to take battling seriously, but remember that your pokemon's feelings are important too! Doing more stuff like this with them will help you get along better." Smile.
>>4597 Rena clambers into your hands so you can lift her up.
>>4596 You head out of the city to Route 4. You're confronted with rolling hills of farmland everywhere: this is the ranching route, and where they keep the land for stored Pokemon not in boxes.
>>4599 "I know that! I'm not just out here to battle though. I'm here to research evolution. We already discovered a new eeveelution before thanks to Clyde. Alloyeon, a steel type!"
>>4603 Perhaps the most obvious sights are the large plots of owned Tauros and Miltank here. You see tall grass further in – a Wild Stantler on the road sees you and leaps into it. You can safely make it to Adapt without confrontation if you want, or sift through the tall grass for wild ungulate Pokemon. Just don't try to poach the pens!
>>4605 Eevee Evolution Pokémon Type: Normal Status: Owned Apx Level: 20 Thanks to its unstable genetic makeup, this special Pokémon conceals many different possible evolutions.
>>4611 >>4609 Switch the dex over to the phone function "You must be a very special trainer then. Would you like to register so we can talk again later?"
>>4619 Adapt City lives up to its name: it's a multicultural city full of all different kinds, little enclaves of Unovan culture and Kanto culture here and there. As you walk down mainstreet you see the famous national evolution research foundation, headed by the illustrious Prof Orange.
>>4622 Pokedexes don't create entries on the fly anymore. That was a long time ago when Pokemon were regularly being discovered. You submitted your data, but it needs to be manually entered at the National Pokedex Datacenter.
>>4626 Nod and give clyde a pet on the head before returning all my pokemon except for Rena, who I'll let sit on my hat for a while. "Yea, I should get going if I want to get to autumn glen before nightfall. I'll give you a call when I make my way up to the cities." I smile.
>>4636 There's tons of stuff on the Market Road! It's just the Tall Grass has been trimmed pack. Mostly Bug/Poison types… Beedrills, here and there a Bellsprout. More Venonat. Spinarak, Budew. Even a Dustox high above in the sky, and Venipede crawling over the remains of that honey that the Snorlax left.
>>4637 Back to Mint Town it is. Forest Road, here you come! Roll to traverse or search.
>>4638 Right, I had put Pearl and Sleepy on my team in place of Nimbus and Cinder, since Fire types are no good against water, and I don't want them to suffer needlessly in the shrine match. Now, let's take a look at that water fall.
>>4642 Well, I needed Vivi to get into the one in Phlox, and Cinder opened the one in Crimsonborough, so… "Come on out, Pearl. Let's see if we can't find ourselves a door."
>>4642 Huh. That was easier than I thought. I take the key. "Good job, buddy. Now, before we go in and challenge the shrine keeper, are you up for something?" I pull out TM 55.
Which move should be deleted to make room for Scald?
>>4650 She drifts along as you head inside… into the cave, where a bespectacled man awaits. There's also another trainer riding on a buoy in a pool of water up ahead.
>>4651 Let's talk to the guy on the buoy. He's probably the Shrinekeeper's assistant. "Hey there. You wouldn't be willing to tell me what this shrine is about, would you?"
>>4663 You reach Mint Town without further incident.
>>4664 "YO, CHAMP IN THE MAKING! Looks like you figured out the locks fine on your own, but you'll need a Heat Suit if you want any chance of taking on SHRINE KEEPER KLARA! She can be too hot to handle!"
>>4665 You carefully put on a bee suit and go inside.
SHRINE GUARDIAN NELSON sent out Slowpoke! Do it, Pearl!
>>4671 "What? Anyway, won't worry about that – see this elevator? Click the stick into place and it will take you straight down to the molten heart of the mountain! Be sure your suit is on tight – you won't survive, otherwise!"
He directs you toward a metal box rigged up to a cable machine. Inside there's a console with a stick.
"Well, this is unfair for me to answer, since I know you're talking about Shauna. I'll let her parents know if you have any information, but if you ask me, even if they find her, she's not coming home until she's had her fill of adventure. You can't keep someone as stubborn as her cooped up forever."
>>4676 He shrugs. "Don't tell her parents this, but I expect he would've left sooner or later anyway. Don't blame yourself for other peoples' decisions, okay?"
>>4675 You carefully avoid most of the tall grass in the first part of the Old Road. More traversal lies ahead!
>>4677 The elevator hums slightly as you ride down. It quickly grows boring, watching row after row of nondescript rock. Even inside your suit, though, you can tell it's getting hotter. Before long, you have arrived at the bottom of the shaft, and the metal cage door on the elevator pops open. Up ahead, out in the middle of an outcropping of rock, you see another suited figure, working at some device. She turns and waves at your approach. Or – you assume she anyway.
>>4680 "Alright… good luck, then! I'll let her parents know you're looking. And I'll omit any implication of your involvement."
>>4681 Unfortunately your way is stopped altogether by a big wreck on the road. There's a crashed tractor directly in the middle of the path – you don't see any way around, with the trees so thick.
"Not for a city boy! You're lucky I used the right-level team for you!"
>>4686 You uneasily scale it, using the grating as footing. You finally reach up for a handhold on the cab and something furry touches your hand… you can't see what it is from here at your climbing angle.
>>4691 "You're here to desecrate our culture in the name of power and money!"
Slowpoke is fast asleep…
Slowpoke L14 [▓▓▓▓▓▓▓░░░]
Sleepy L16 [▓▓▓░░░░░░░]
>>4692 You carefully edge around the cabin to where you saw the tail, when you get hit from behind, falling off the back of the tractor onto the route below – Miles carefully skips down after you.
A Liepard smugly watches you from where you previously stood on the back of the tractor. At least you're over it.
>>4693 You scrape some off of the trees, although the local bugs don't seem too happy about it…
>>4694 I'll frown at him. "Orrrr I'm here to see if my pokemon and I are equal to this challenge. The money's just a bonus. Sleepy, hit him again with another headbutt. '1d10'
>>4694 They don't? But there is so much, surely they can share a little! Hold up a bit so Rena can taste it. "Here, this is probably better food for you."
"It's all about fighting to you! You just want to test yourself in battle and get money, like I said! You don't even deny it. That's why you're hated out here. Don't get angry with me because of how you choose to live."
>>4699 I shrug. "I'm not a very complex guy. Who knows? I've already learned that the bonds one can share must go pretty deep if you're willing to dig this out. Anyway, yes."
>>4699 I'll frown a little harder. "In Phlox, I got a quick look inside one of my pokemon's head. He wanted to fight. To get stronger. So that's what we're doing! I know people can live perfectly happy lives with their pokemon without ever getting into a battle. But I make sure my team knows what it's getting into! They fight with me because they trust me to see things through with them! So I'm going to see this through, one way or the other. Sleepy, finish it off with a Headbutt!" '1d10'
"Good, then let's begin. Please, join me here, on the ledge. See below? This is the hottest place you can safely go inside the mountain."
Far, far below there is a pit of roiling pitch. Extreme heat rises from it.
"We are going to meditate here. Whoever's team can meditate the longest will win. Are you ready to prove your will?"
SHRINE KEEPER KLARA wants to meditate!
SHRINE KEEPER KLARA sent out Darmanitan!
You're in charge, Needlenose!
Roll to meditate.
>>4705 You dropped off Willow, you have an open space now.
>>4706 You push through the first pack of grass without incident. Roll to traverse.
>>4707 "You're garbage. I look forward to seeing your face after Wallis has wiped that smirk off of it. Ride the buoy down when you're ready, city boy."
>>4708 I'm not even going to dignify that with a response. Call Sleepy back, run up to the PokeCenter real quickly to heal everyone up, and then back down to grab the buoy.
Once you grab it, the water level begins to lower, and you ride it down several floors, until finally it opens up into a huge cavern.
Water drips with such frequency and intensity here, it's as though you're in the middle of a huge storm. It is ceaselessly pouring… you wish you had an umbrella.
>>4713 It's fine, my team likely weathered worse. Onward to Wallis. Briefly wonder if this counts as rain, since water types get a boost during storms…
You push through more tall grass and are confronted by Houndoom! Do it, Clyde!
>>4720 You see a lone figure out with a lantern on an island in the middle of the storm… your buoy slowly drifts toward the island until it finally makes contact.
>>4721 Fall road. How odd… it seems frozen in time. While the rest of the world has moved on to a very mild winter, the leaves of the Fall Road remain forever in a burnt orange twilight. It all begins with a brief passage through a very small cave entered from Sapshire, and you're off. You know the walk won't be far to Autumn Glen from here…
>>4731 "Well, it's not going to take long, I think. I hope." Shiver a little. "I was wondering what you taught here. The Phlox shrine taught the more traditional methods of bonding with pokemon, and I didn't poke around the Crimsonborough shrine long enough to find its keeper to ask."
>>4741 It's splashing about down below in the stream. You edge closer to it.
>>4740 "This is the last sacred vestige where the great cataclysmic powers of nature can be felt at all hours… the crash of the sea, the pouring rain… If you cannot learn here, you must be blind in all senses."
>>4742 The MART here will only sell you the usual stuff because you failed to get any certs. There's a department store in town, but it has similar regulations…
SHRINE KEEPER WALLIS sent out Tentacool! You're in charge, Eggward!
>>4759 First up is an Eevee for a trim. This one is super easy– you know how an Eevee is supposed to look, it's mostly brushing loose the extra fur anyway.
>>4770 It's mostly kids here. Maybe a tour group from one of the academies. Soon a tour guide steps in.
"Please hold all your questions until the end of the tour. Until that time, please, follow me!"
First, you tour some facilities that are focused on Trading Evolution. Two scientists seem to be repeatedly ordering Haunters from one side of the room to the other and taking notes.
>>4771 "Are you sure? Feel the wave wash over you – SLUDGE WAVE!"
"Fantastic! Well done indeed! You made that look easy, this time. Come here, and I'll stamp your trainer card with this – the First Certification! First Certification will ensure your Pokemon listen to you up to level 20 – you sure cut it close! As a personal note, I'd also like to give you one of these, take your pick!"
He offers you: Fire Stone Thunder Stone Water Stone Leaf Stone Dawn Stone Dusk Stone Moon Stone Sun Stone Shiny Stone
>>4783 In the next room, a researcher is sketching pairs grouped together. Karrablast and Shelmet. Mantyke and Remoraid. Pancham and Umbreon.
"Can anyone guess what this room is for studying?"
For the first time since the battle started, she speaks: "A little intermission, while we have no partners out, it seems. Do you feel the intensity of the fire? I hope you have enough friends left to take my toughest Pokemon on!"
Use next Pokemon?
>>4787 It's a little shady: it's Dark Mail. It doesn't have a to or from, either…
"Right, very astute. In the next room we study evolutionary stones brought all the way from a dig out in the desert even further west than Chromeburg…"
She leads you into the next room which is full of glimmering gemstones.
>>4791 P Found what you're looking for Need to get some stuff out of the way first You'll need the gear It's in a short geyser in the steam fields where all those rock and water types live. G
>>4797 Aw… looks like you need two certifications to start to unlock the first stuff at the MART. Maybe they have some TMs and gear you can buy at that department store, though.
"FEEL THE FURY OF THE STORM UNLEASHED! WHERE WILL YOU FIND PURCHASE IN THIS TERRIBLE STORM?"
Lola fainted! Use next Pokemon?
>>4803 You head over to the department store. On the first level they sell some basic held items. Looks like second floor is for advanced held items. Third, TMs. Fourth, evolutionary items, and the fifth is the food court.
"It isn't totally clear what has caused such a large deposit of evolutionary stones so far out in the desert. That's part of what researchers like Professor Orange are working to find out!"
>>4806 Reel back a little. "How the heck did that thing learn that? It's a flying-type move!" I'll pick through my team for a moment. "Eggward, you're back up! Use Hypnosis!" '1d10'
The next room is full of historical paraphernalia like old signs, ads, and wrappers from the Rare Candy Company. One such sign sports their classic symbol: ®.
"The Rare Candy Company produces 'candies' that give Pokemon nutrients necessary to grow quickly. These 'candies' have been invaluable in the research of Pokemon that evolve though as it is colloquially called, 'leveling up'."
>>4810 SHRINE KEEPER WALLIS switched to Tentacool!
Tentacool fell asleep!
He yells over the storm at you: "NOT JUST THAT! WHILE WAILMER IS HOLDING MY STORM BALL, HURRICANE IS CONSIDERED A WATER-TYPE MOVE, MEANING ITS ACCURACY AND POWER ARE BOTH BOOSTED BY THIS RAGING STORM!"
>>4807 Just a few options for new trainers like yourself… TM11 - Sunny Day. TM05 - Roar. TM28 - Dig. TM44 - Rest.
>>4812 "I could have sworn Wailmer couldn't learn that move, even with a TM! Guess that shows what I know!" Okay, just keep going. "Eggward! Use Bullet Seed!" '1d10'
>>4813 "HURRICANE ISN'T A TM! YOU'RE GOING TO HAVE TO SPEAK UP, SONNY. OR JUST SINK INTO THE STORM! SCALD!"
Scald wasn't very effective…
Hit 2 times! It was neutrally effective due to the Poison typing of Tentacool!
Tentacool L14 [▓▓▓▓░░░░░░]
Eggward BRN [▓▓▓░░░░░░░]
Eggward hurt by burn!
>>4816 "Unfortunately it looks like we didn't get to see Professor Orange out in the lab today, but here you can see his great achievement, which will make Tianxia the most important region in the world. The Pokemon Prof has been able to alter an Everstone to have special properties that actually reverse evolution! Professor Orange calls this a Return Stone. They are being used in studies here at the lab."
She points to a reddish-orange gem in a nearby glass case.
Klara stands up and walks over, returning Magcargo.
"Astounding, such focus! I'm truly impressed with you, young trainer. You've proven you have the force of will to resist mighty heat, and a meditative spirit to match my own. For your victory here, you have earned the Pebble Badge – for understanding even the simple pebble can weather intense heats that we would balk at! You are able to focus your mind down to that pebble where you and your team become impenetrable! I'd also like to give you TM35. TM35 contains Flamethrower – test the spirits of your foes with its heat!"
>>4850 Your way is blocked by a car which is parked, stretched across the road.
Some guy in it is defeating trainers left and right to the cheers of a squad of cheerleaders. He's has higher levels than everyone else, beating them in 1-2 turns each.
>>4849 "Definitely. And there's a practical reason to be down here, too: while I'm down here I can take readings on the mountain's heart. It may be waning, but it's always good to me on the safe side."
>>4857 "It's not, officially, but anything I can do to help out, right? In any case, you should probably go heal up your friends, don't you think? Perhaps I'll see you in Crimsonborough again."
>>4860 This shop has a bunch of random junk lying around in it, like a pawn shop. There are a few golden Meowth statues about, notably. A big-nosed clerk at the counter looks up.
"Nu? A customer? Come on in, come on in! I'll be a real mentsh to you! How can I make a deal for you? You'll find no shlock here at Goldstein and Sons."
>>4863 "Oh, yes… we have them at a good starting rate, my goyim friend. If you just sign some of this paperwork we can get you an Amulet Coin today!"
>>4864 You have to leave the heat suit on the rack next to that guy with the glasses.
Do do dododo!
>>4865 On the way to your old academy you see some Emolga in the trees. There's a man on the side of the street calling for paid test subject positions over at the lab.
>>4867 You're not so sure about all this adult legal mumbo jumbo.
"Well, the down payment is very cheap, then there will be a recurring monthly payment, as well as a percent rendered on every battle. Other punitive fees may apply."
>>4877 "Some researchers believe that all modern moves used by Pokemon were mutated from more simple moves in the past – tracing everything back to the most simple Normal-type moves, like Scratch or Tackle. Sometimes you might spot a Pokemon knowing a move it has no business knowing, like an Oddish with Sunny Day."
>>4876 "It would be just a 2000P down payment with a 1500P monthly payment each month, and 25% of all winnings after the bonus. Good deal, eh Goyim?"
>>4886 "Mutations are more likely to pass down when Ditto breeding, because the same DNA is being used twice. Natural breeding tends to smooth out mutations, which is why mutations are more common in the lab."
>>4888 "Are you going to be doing it on the road or using a rented box here in Amber?"
>>4889 "Feh! You have some chutzpah to say that to me! I offer you a good deal, and you kvetsh about like a schmuck. Gornisht helfn! Gey gezunterheyt!"
>>4890 You make it to Phlox City without further incident.
>>4892 "You'll need chemical pheromone sprays, and of course the Luddites don't like those at all. You can always see protests outside the labs, of course."
>>4893 "Ikh hob dir in drerd! I oughtta run you out of town, you nafka!"
>>4898 On your way out of town on the road, you step on something. Hm… it's a key with the letter S on it. Odd.
>>4897 Route 12 it is. It's as full of newbie trainers as the legends say, and a bunch of "pest" Pokemon, as some call them. Stuff like Caterpie, Pidgey, Spearow, and Rattata.
>>4899 You head down to the Pokemon Breeding Suites. There are protesters outside. Their signs indicate anger over what they refer to as "Pokemon Mills" – forced breeding of high demand Pokemon like starters over and over, especially with the use of chemicals, for their entire lives, strictly for the purposes of mass producing Pokemon to sell for profit.
>>4900 The pokemon aren't hurt. They don't develop to a point where they have an understanding of what's going on either to want more. Bah. Let them cry.
>>4901 Berry route it is. That guy who was defeating everyone took off. I guess he finished "Taxing" everyone through battle.
>>4902 You make it through the first area unmolested. There were mostly low-level Pokemon here.
Onwards! Roll. >>4903 >>4904 Rena isn't a Ninjask yet.
They're staring each other down…
>>4905 There are professionals at desks working with trainers. You see signs with information about rental plans – for both boxes and for Dittos. There's also a desk where you can buy breeding supplies, like chemicals and everstones.
>>4907 It encourages it, through arcane means not fully understood. Some call this pseudoscience "voodoo breeding", but you can't argue with results. Well, you can. Mostly by calling it voodoo or pseudoscience.
You wonder if Pokemon actually have a nature at birth or if that develops over time. Of course, it's the classic nature vs nurture argument.
>>4909 You quickly traverse the remainder of the terrain and make it to Amber City with no incident.
